Bentley Offers Helping Hand to "Be Employable" for those Out of Work
Bentley Systems launched a campaign yesterday called "Be Employable" to support out of work infrastructure professionals with free online training and access to online software. The initiative, part of Bentley's "Be Careers Network," includes professional organizations and firms looking to support recruitment of trained AEC and geospatial technologists. I'll give Bentley credit; it's a great idea and this is the first I've seen of a program to help geospatial professionals who may be looking for work. In a time where there is a dearth of trained geospatial professionals this is an opportunity to develop skills that are highly employable.

From the CAD Side
While I spent most of my day on things geospatial I still keep a foot in the CAD door. My first professional article was in a CAD magazine (CADence) and my first job was using CAD (AutoCAD 9).
Two articles of note:

GIS/Survey Companies Support Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum; Where are Infrastructure Software Vendors?
The 2nd Annual Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum is coming up in December. It's not something of which I've ever heard. Here's what will happen:
$400 billion worth of infrastructure projects, equivalent to 1% of world GDP, will be presented at the 2nd Annual Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum. The 100 projects, to be presented by their sponsors to an audience of 500 executives from more than 40 countries, is an attempt to identify those projects that will allow the world to build its way out of the current financial crisis.
So, I'd think the two software firms most likely to be involved would be Autodesk and Bentley. They both build their marketing and products around "infrastructure." They are not sponsors. Who is? ESRI. Leica. PA Consulting. There are many reasons these two firms may not be involved; I am simply surprised they are not.

Podcast: Platformization - Marketing or Solution?
Players in the geospatial arena are offering grouping of products referred to as platforms or portfolios to address enterprise needs. Bentley this week announced its V8i portfolio. A few weeks ago Microsoft rolled out its Single View Platform. Are these launches just marketing efforts or is there more?
