The Role of GIS in Enhancing Education/GeoCareers #ESRIUC #ERSIEDUC
A combined ESRI UC and ESRI EDUC panel session was officially titled The Role of GIS in Enhancing Education. It got redefined a bit to examine geocareers. No matter the panel had plenty to say, as did the audience, a mix of educators and industry GIS users. ESRI’s Governor Jim Geringer moderated.

Podcast: Should Geospatial Education Create Subject Matter Experts or Geospatial Thinkers?
Do we encourage the next generation of young geospatial professionals to get degrees in specific disciplines such as geology, forestry, urban planning, etc. or do we train them to be “geospatial thinker" with a degree in GIS? This was the question posed at a panel at last week's Geospatial Infrastructure Solutions Conference. This week we review the panelists' thoughts and offer up our opinions.

Qualcomm Ventures Invests $9 million in MapMyIndia
MapMyIndia provides digital maps, location-based services and GPS navigation on handhelds and in cars. The investment, along with others from Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, Sherpalo Ventures and Nexus India Capital may lead to expansion outside of India. A telling comment from MapmyIndia MD Rakesh Verma: "After the acquisition of Navteq, the field has been opened. We are examining and have plans for venturing overseas in 2010-11."
