Seattle is financing its expanding Monorail by taxing car owners who live in the city. Unfortunately, they use ZIP Codes to determine whoТs in and whoТs out. That leads to problems as ZIP Codes do not match city boundaries. And, that upsets those who live outside the city whose tax bills may jump several hundred dollars.
Said one unnerved non-Seattle resident, "How hard is that? [locating a house] It's 2005, not 1812. ... We can do satellite imaging of a fly." Of course that may not exactly be true, but the problem seems to be that the Department of Licensing can only get accurate address information manually, by looking at a map.
