NAVTEQ/Microsoft Update Relationship

Update: This may be related to this announcement last week - of NAVTEQ taking pics for Streetside.

"NAVTEQ... today announced a new technology agreement which will allow NAVTEQ to more rapidly deploy innovative collection capabilities and accelerate the collection, creation and storage of 3D map data and visuals. NAVTEQ and Microsoft have agreed to work together to support technological advancements in this area, through which NAVTEQ will also provide Microsoft Corp. with 3D map data and visuals to power new mapping features."

Could this be a reason that Google ended it's relationship with NAVTEQ this past year? Perhaps they were aware of and not exactly comfortable with NAVTEQ's direction. That might also explain Google's hasty delivery of erroneous datasets.

--Just a thought.

Google had already started moving away from NAVTEQ back in June of 08 in favor of TeleAtlas.

Wrong and wronger.

Google was to Tele Atlas
as
Microsoft remains to NavTeq

Looks like NavTeq picked a better partner...
