Autodesk Q3 2010 Down 31% Over Q3 2009

Revenue was $417 million for Q3 2010, basically flat from last quarter but showed a decrease of 31 percent compared to the third quarter of fiscal 2009. I think it's telling that its core products, AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT showed similar traits: "Combined revenue from our AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT products increased 2 percent sequentially and decreased 39 percent compared to the third quarter last year."

There's no comments on geospatial and I don't expect any in today's conference call scheduled for 5 pm eastern. The group seems to in a bit of a holding pattern of late.

Ouch. Subtract the Asia/China growth engine and the results are even more telling. Perhaps they might consider adopting the name of an old acquisition - Softdesk?

Cyclical effects might be hitting them with a double-witching downturn as well. ADSK stock has always cycled on "off-year" product releases. It used to be odd-numbered releases were poorly received; so they put a stop to the superstitious part of the equation by starting to name their core product versions by the year in which they're introduced. Bottom line is their user base just doesn't upgrade often enough for their liking and sales volume.
