Bentley Positions PowerMap as Alternative to ESRI/ArcGIS

While doing some research on a previous post I did a Google search on "lynchburg va esri." One ad that popped up in the results:

The link to the top text brought me here. While there's quite a bit of text about Bentley PowerMap's features and benefits, and the promise of a free trial, I didn't see anything about it being an alternative to ESRI.

Bentley is getting aggressive with its marketing of PowerMap and subtly positioning it as an alternative to ArcGIS. (Google that phrase and look at the sponsored links!)

This is true; ESRI ArcGIS cannot be substituted by any other product even though if it comes from an excellent vendor as Bentley System.

However, I would not say that Bentley is getting aggressive with its marketing strategy at all. In fact, if we have a look on Bentley's main competitor's advertising and marketing activity we must admit that Bentley System's advertising presence is very modest. This competitor is not ESRI at all but another major player in the CAD industry, you can guess which one is that:)

Altogether it can be said that perhaps Bentley PowerMap MAY be used to substitute of a simple ArcGIS installation. That is it, the rest is just marketing...
