I was surprised that my father-in-law had a similar misconception about the RFID tag in his compost bin. The municipality provided all home owners with a compost bin that contained an RFID chip. Each bin's location was recorded by GPS when it was delivered to the home owner. The funniest thing about this is that he is a retired engineer and he believed that the location of his compost bin could be tracked from a satellite.
