U.S. Healthiest City? Burlington, VT

My training partner sent me this link since she recalled I ran the marathon there on Memorial Day and stayed with my aunt and uncle. The Centers for Disease Control put the city on top.

The most interesting part of the article is the comparison of this "top" city in health, with its opposite, Huntingdon, WV. The two are similar in some ways: out of the way, colleges town with mostly white populations. But, Burlington is a bit younger, more community focussed, has more people with college educations and has less poverty.

Burlington is amazing city that sometimes doesn't get the credit that is due for it. Great community with great local shopping.

Maponics is in Vermont, about an hour away from Burlington, but I've never thought of Burlington as a "healthiest" city. There's a lot of poverty around the state, but I guess not much in the immediate Burlington area. Someone who knows something about mapmaking should map out the demographics....(smile)

There is a huge climate/attitude in VT towards buying organic and buying local food, so even inactive people get pressure not not sit on the couch eating Pringles.
