I certainly agree that finding personal location data is a whole lot easier now that in 1992. Here's another example that just rolled across the police monitor this morning. ("Paul 22" is the radio ID for a local police patrol officer.)

Dispatch: Paul 22, report of a suicidal subject.

Paul 22: Go ahead.

Dispatch: Paul 22, sucidal subject, male, unknown description, calling from a cell phone. CAD shows a lat/lon on the northwest corner of Grant and Holly streets.

Paul 22: In the area.

Paul 22: I'll be out with a male, approximately 5'11", black hoody, blue jeans, talking on a cell phone. Grant and Holly. Roll a cover unit.

Dispatch: Paul 15, cover Paul 22 at Grant and Holly. Sucicidal subject.

Paul 15: In route. Code 3.

Paul 22: This appears to be a medical issue. Roll paramedics and fire.

Dispatch: Medics and fire in route.

Adena, the total time for that exchange was less than 2 minutes. The technical magic is the automatic caller location and map that pops up on the local dispatcher's console when someone calls 911 from a cell phone.

So, technology can and does make location known in many ways. It that good or bad? Yes, it is good or bad. We'll just have to deal with it.
