Penn State Geography's Coffee Hour Turns 40

Now, the story I heard about the every-Friday afternoon Geography Department Coffee Hour was that it was intended to prevent the grad students from getting an early start on their weekend drinking. It seemed to work when I was in the department; nearly all the grad students attended nearly every week. Today, the venerable institution celebrates its 40 anniversary with a special edition hosted by two emeritus professors: Wilbur Zelinsky and Pierce Lewis. The topic: The Importance of Coffee Hour. I'm sure they'll offer some better reason for its existence than I did!

I do wish I could be on campus for it but I'll have to participate via the Web.

Join the Department of Geography in celebrating its 40th year of the Coffee Hour tradition with featured talks by Professors Emeriti Peirce Lewis and Wilbur Zelinsky as they reflect upon "The Importance of Coffee Hour." Emeritus professor Ron Abler will introduce the speakers.

This presentation is a live streaming event, and those participating online are encouraged to introduce themselves to the moderator, or send in questions at any time during the presentation, using the "Ask" feature in the presentation browser (directly above video window). We'll do our best to include these questions or comments during the > Question and Answer period at the end of the presention.

Preferred browsers are recent versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer for PCs, and Firefox and Safari for Macs. Technical questions or issues may be directed to Eric Spielvogel @ ejs140@psu.edu.

Absolutely--we'd love to see participants from far and wide! The session will be archived, so people can watch after the event if they're unable to log in today at 4:00 EDT.
