RFID and Trash
In Croydon, south London, the trash barrels (УbinsФ in the UK) are fitted with RFID chips. For now the goal is to monitor how many are emptied and how many missed. But there is fear: what if someone hacks the system and figures since one house has had no trash for a while, it might suggest the residents are on vacation (УholidyФ in the UK) and thus ripe for a robbery? ThatТs only part of the concern. Apparently officials have suggested that in time the chips may keep track of the amount of trash. That might lead to better management practices. How would that work? Some type of weight sensor on the chip?
