Ubisoft Studies Terrain Technology; To use GeoEye Imagery in HAWX Game

Remote Sensing

Ubisoft's team for Tom Clancy's HAWX air combat game did its homework: it visited USGS and EROS "to understand the concept of topographical 'underpinning' to create a realistic representation of the earth."

Then it decided to use GeoEye imagery in the game, including shots of Rio de Janeiro, Cape Canaveral and the Middle East.

The game is expected in 2009.

can someone explain the process which Ubi applied to ingest these large data files into their gaming environment? was it manual and very specific to the three regions GeoEye supported?

how easy would it be for users to ingest new imagery, perhaps from other sensors? I'm guessing without access to the code probably not directly accessible with a game level editor.
