Most US Gov Lines of Business will Stay After Election; Geo Maybe Not

FCW.com reports on an Input study that suggests that no matter the outcome of the election most Lines of Business will remain as is. LOBs are an Office of Management and Budget program to streamline specific technical processes of the government. LOBs in the "challenged" category, those with limited constituencies, including Geospatial may be dropped.

It is pretty sad when geospatial is perceived to have limited constituencies when EVERYTHING about government is somewhere and more than ever where it what it is all about. When was the last time a Senator from Idaho championed a project in Maine?

That said, the issue to me is not the presence of a separate LOB, but what best gets geospatial recognized and better used in the processes of all the other LOBs. As a recovering mapaholic (it has been five years since I made a map just because I could) I am more concerned with penetrating those other LOBs than defending a Geospatial one. In many ways the introduction of the Geo LOB slowed that penetration. The first profile was useful and work on a second pointed directly at managers stalled under the weight of the LOB standup.
