Daily Kos Shows Petraeus' Re-Mapping

Reader Jay sent on a note about the article that illustrates how Gen. David Petraeus updated allegedly altered maps of violence in Baghdad shown last September in his presentations this week.

Wow! Now we are using the Daily Kos as a reference for unbiased, technical analysis of battlefield mapping. Give me a break!

It seems plausible that, given the maps were designed to show the changing violence levels in Baghdad, the discrepancies in the underlying ethnic data might have been mistakes that were overlooked.

Of course that isn't as sexy or sinister an explanation for those who are clutching at straws in the quest to discredit Petreus, the 'surge', evil neo-cons, bush etc etc 'zionists' yadda yadda yadda (ctd p94).

I get a lot of good information and stories from this blog. But referencing a story from Daily Kos, a site with an obvious negative bias, is just wrong and detracts from the quality information that is usually presented here.

DailyKos is basically a hate site and it's obviously not a trusted source. Aren't they the group who took out the full page NY Times ad that called General Petraeus "Betrayus"??

I think that was moveon.org. Dailykos may have been a part of it, iirr, moveon was the major playing in that ad.

Seems APP may have jumped the shark with this one.

I spent some time looking at the maps because the story was linked from here. I decided it was much ado about not much, but still, it was interesting and I don't feel like I wasted my time.

I concur with Jim in Post Number 3: Adena, if you choose to promote (and make no mistake, linking to it is promotion) the DailyKos I will choose to give you the same 'bias rating' -- negative 10. Is referencing a hate filled site worth it?

DailyKos clearly has a political bias and I'm not sure I would link to it for that reason but calling "hate" is a bit much. We can simply balance it out by linking to another, equally biased, equally ideological site: http://www.foxnews.com/

Perhaps I read this site for a different reason than most of you. I enjoy reading about different ways people are using maps and geospatial technologies. APB is always pointing out sites that offer unique and compelling ways to present their information geographically. That is what I find interesting.

It isn't about the topic of the site, it is making note about how they are using the various technologies most of us are interested in. I don't care at all if I don't agree with the topic APB might link to, it is the use of maps and geospatial technologies on the end site that I'm interested in.

You don't have to agree or disagree with the topic of the site being linked to, rather it is a way to show another example of how the technology is being used.
