While the popular web-mapping services are very useful to many people, I am not surprised to see businesses and organizations telling people not to use these for directions.

I think the functionality of these sites is very good for Joe Public, but there is sometimes a serious issue with data currency and accuracy on these sites that "Joe" does not even realize exists.

If the major web-mapping sites do not address these issues soon, I think we will be seeing more and more businesses and organizations telling people not to use them.

Plenty of stories in the UK press about how drivers following poor satnav directions are damaging rail networks, historic buildings, bridges and roads...
