GIS Monitor Ceases Publication

Dear GIS Monitor readers,
GIS Monitor's publisher, Reed Business Geo, Inc. has ceased publication of this weekly electronic newsletter effective December 31, 2007. We will all miss the Monitor's timely news and insights, but you can continue to access past issues in the archives on this site.

I started GIS Monitor in 2000 with the support of its first publisher, Roopinder Tara of Tenlinks. The first issue covered the acquisition of Smallworld by General Electric.

I started writing for the GIS Monitor in early 2005, when Adena was its editor, and happily followed her to Directions Magazine in 2006.

My first article was about the newly-launched GIS Certification Program, where I posed questions such as: "Is the GISCI certification program trying to fill the state licensing void by creating a national GIS certification system?" and "With the implementation of state GIS licensing, will the GISP brand gain or lose value over time?"

I still haven't answered these questions.

Atanas,

While you wrote many letters and sent on many links, I believe you never wrote for GIS Monitor. I had about two contributed pieces in the five years I edited it. (One memorable one was from the GIS Manager from Euless Texas, David Allen, who shared the response to the Columbia disaster. http://www.gismonitor.com/news/newsletter/archive/022003.php#Finding) GIS Monitor was never meant to be a publication that solicited articles.

Your GISCI article was for EOM, a wholly different publication, also no longer published.
