The Daily Breeze is reporting that Palos Verdes Estates (California) Police Department has contracted with a local non-profit,
PVNET, to put together a disaster planning GIS. Of note:
"We use volunteers and interns and we're a nonprofit," said Ted Vegvari, director of the Rancho Palos Verdes-based organization.
Vegvari said a private contractor could charge five times more than what the nonprofit is offering [about $6000] to develop geographic information system maps.
I wonder how many other localities tap into non-profits to do this sort of work?
