Patent Watch: Patent Auction Include LBS-related IP
GPS Business News, a new GPS news site (free subscription until April 15, then fee required) reports that Ocean Tomo is holding a live auction on April 19 in Chicago that will include several LBS and GPS related patents. This is the third such auction of IP from a variety of industries. The last auction, in the fall of 2006 included several sales of lots of patents related to LBS-type IP, one for nearly $.5 million and another undisclosed amount. Buyers and prices are typically kept anonymous.
The article notes that several lots (5, 24 and 25) include "space related" IP including patents for GPS/3D data integration, mobile and LBS advertising, and mobile/LBS social applications. Ocean Tomo suggests the lots may sell for up to $3 million. The catalog for this auction is here.
