Roofers Can Now Use Aerial Imagery to Find Customers

Stockton Infrared Thermographic Services' RoofScanIR consists of 10 planes, some infrared sensors and some analytical tools that can identify damaged roofs. "The infrared imagery can identify differences in moisture-contaminated roof substrates and differences in coatings."

The company sells its services (based across the US) to fly areas of interest in the U.S. and Canada, to roofing contractors and others so they can target new clients. Images are fused into a single IR mosaic for delivery and cost is base on distance from the target area and resolution (and I hope the size of the area to be flown, though that's not noted in the press release).

I do wonder if they'll do better than all those companies that wanted to do aerial imagery for agriculture...

Ha. One of my examples back in the mid 90's was of a pool service being able to pinpoint swimming pools that needed treatments by using satellite imagery. I realize now that with the same airplanes, they could just drop in the proper chemicals as they fly over! Too bad you can't fix a roof by dropping some kind of gunk on it...
