A Most Satifying Map

To help get over yesterday's unsatifying map I'm pleased to report Torontoist jumping for joy over a new transit map for that city. (The article is titled: The Best Map Ever in the History of Anything.) The map combines several public transit lines, includes Google's geocoding and all stops, not just major ones. I agree it's most satisfying - but I will note that of late I'm finding Google Maps based maps a bit more sluggish than in the past. Is it me or do others see that? I suspect it's in the hosting apps cite more than Google's. Is that right?

Update: And my own MBTA put some mashups on its site as we in Boston move from tokens to our new Charlie Cards. The bus I took last night was already Charlie enabled...

Adena, I'm not seeing any slow down with Google Maps. However, once upon a time, a few months ago, I tried out some tweaks to Firefox that were reported to speed up browsing. These tweaks actually slow-down Google Maps. Once I changed the tweaks back to the default settings in Firefox everything went fast again.

I don't know if this applies to you, but I thought I would share it.

Charlie is a common English slang word for Peruvian Nose Ningle - I hope you aren't suggesting this how you get through the cold Boston winters...

Charlie Card's are named after the Charlie in "The MTA song" also known as "Charlie on the MTA." The song relates the story of a poor fellow who didn't have a nickel required to exist the system and "never returned" from his trip on our transit system now called the MBTA (aka the "T"). It was written in the 1940s and later used to support Walter O'Brien as Mayor and fix this oddity. The song has been sung by children and adults ever since and remains popular in the singing circle I attend.

I love that song. Especially where his wife goes down to the station and throws him a paper bag with lunch as he's riding around and around...
