RFID for Fire Alerts: Priceless?

An Australian company will soon offer RFID sensors that will send alerts when wildfires crop up, ideally making data available far earlier that satellite or aerial imagery. The company, Telepathx, "expects the systems will cost about $1500.00 USD per kilometre depending on sensor saturation."

The company claims:

Telepathx patent pending active RFID sensors are truly innovative in the way they can remotely detect and notify of excessive ambient, convected or radiated heat for extended periods, up to 10-12 years in 24-7 real time without the need of maintenance or management.


Is that a reasonable price?

1500 dollars to monitor 1 km of rural roadway over the next ten years is a very good deal indeed. Also look at it this way they are offering near real time alarming and fire mapping, something geospatial sats just cant offer. I think the point they are making is getting to the fire before it gets out of control can reduce a lot of damage. We spoke to them last night, the fifteen hundred includes four radios and ten sensors

Brilliant best alarming tool for communities that we have ever seen. Considering what it provides the price is well worth it, we are already planning on using it to monitor some rural areas.

These guys are going to make an absolute killing with these sensors they are only 39 dollars each.Great idea wish I had thought of it.
