I had to share that since we had quite a response to Al Franken’s efforts (which take about 3 minutes). Should someone invite this fellow, Terry Downing, as an “entertainer” to a conference?

New Zealand has a new, official topographical map series called Topo50. The 1:50,000 scale maps have a shift - an approximate 200 metre change in position from previous maps - and are designed to be compatible with international mapping systems and modern navigational systems such as GPS.

Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) offers a website to explain the changes and get users up and running. I find the “We’ve Moved” motto quite funny and appropriate!

I don’t follow SketchUp much but Ralph Grabowski pulled out two features in the new version (7.1) that are pretty geoaware:

# Get Photo Texture accesses Google Maps Street View images.
# Nearby Models uses a geo-location snapshot to search 3D Warehouse for nearby buildings.

What else will Google geo-enable?
