I’m not entirely comfortable with the lay public reporting on outbreaks of H1N1 flu, especially if there is no way to determine the data are authoritative. There were enough challenges when medical professionals were doing the reporting this spring!
The app is tied into Boston’s Children’s Hospital, MIT and HealthMap, but there is no discussion in the press release about how the authority of the data is handled.

Tom Patterson, ESRI’s wildland fire specialist has been on site at the Station and Oak Glenn III Fires. The local paper has this quote:
I walked into the GIS unit at the Station Fire and said, ‘I’m from ESRI and I’m here to help,’ and they said, ‘Thank God!’
Patterson brought plotters and installed software updates, along with helping make maps. The teams battling the fires are expected to ask for more data and software. On Monday Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger stopped by and Patterson notes the team made apps for him.
