To insure the upcoming 1:10,000 scale map of London is complete the people behind the People’s Map (launch press release) are offering prizes for the person who locates a fictional tourist and the person who posts the most Points of Interest (POIs) between now and the end of September. To play, you need to sign up as an editor and contribute to the map.
While the press release on the contest mentions verifying POIs, but apparently there is no prize for that.

It’s a rare article that doesn’t focus on ESRI’s technology or its use by customers. This Investor’s Business Daily article traces Dangermond’s life with just a small bit on his vision for his company. Titled “Jack Dangermond’s Digital Mapping Lays It All Out,” it’s part of the Leaders and Success series it includes some early years anecdotes I’d not heard.

Professor of Geosciences M. Scott Wilkerson at the DePauw University not only used Google Earth in his geology classes he and his wife, a GIS specialist, wrote the aGeotours workbook to accompany one of the intro textbooks.

A team of Colorado State University researchers, grads and undergrads and DigitalGlobe won a $1 million contract from the National Science Foundation to create computers better able to withstand lightning, floods and other natural disasters. The money comes from the stimulus bill.
