Oracle, DigitalGlobe To Offer Imagery Service
Update: (Adena here) For those who note a PR on this topic from 2007, Joe assured me it's something different. I sent him that very link!
---
After the IPO this morning of DigitalGlobe (DGI), news was available that the company will offer an imagery service with the next release of Oracle Spatial similar to the service that Oracle has with NAVTEQ. GeoEye Q1 Revenues Up But Market Reacts to Possible Satellite Glitch
GeoEye (GEOY) held their Q1 analyst call today and indicated that with GeoEye-1 now up and running that its revenues increased 26% year over year. CEO Matt O'Connell indicated that they were not able reach their full run rate of imagery during the quarter because of the ramp up time after the satellite was certified by NGA. "Wrapping" Military Vehicles; Pattern Courtesy Remote Sensing
Here in Boston we are fond of watching MBTA busses outfitted like boxes of Dunkin Donuts roll down the street. A company called Military Wraps offers Photo-Veil not for advertising but to help camouflage military vehicles. The mesh material differs from the wrap used for advertising in that:
- graphics are designed based on aerial imagery from drones and satellites so they match the geography
- they shield thermal and infrared output
- soldiers can be trained to install the mesh
