Government Technology reports that U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, recently suggested that only local governments in states with completed maps of broadband coverage should receive stimulus money for broadband projects.
The idea is limit fraud and waste.

POI Friend is a social network based on GPS. You upload and can share your favorite Points of Interest. The next step, drawing in businesses. But instead of Scotia Bank offering up a map of its ATMs, it sponsored a map of hockey rinks. I’m not sure of how Tim Horton’s participated but apparently you can track its locations, too.

Volunteers from the Bedford Riding Lanes Association created new maps of 160 miles of trails to update those from 1978 with GPSs and ESRI software.,ESRI donated the software. Westchester County has a prominent ESRI implementation.
