Mary Jo Foley reports that Microsoft filed for the domains “bing.com” and “bing.net.” That was one of names circulating for the company’s new name for search, though of late Kumo was winning in most rumors.

paidContent
reports that the company has also filed for trademark protection for Bing. The filing says the name will be used for “providing a web site and web-site links to geographic information, map images and trip routing,” which sounds to paidContent like Live Search Maps/Virtual Earth.
