FT.com offers a look at three of the “smaller than Google” companies working in the directory/local serach space: (1) 192.com, (2) Touch Local and (3) Multimap. All three are privately held. Each tries to distinguish itself: (1) birth, death, marriage and other records, (2) social networking and (3) 12 year old company created database.
192.com and Multimap make under $2 million in profit and Touch Local is still living off VC funds. All three are good takeover targets.
