The long and short of the
story from Medill (that's the journalism school at Northwestern University) is that NAVTEQ's past success will allow not only its leadership to stay, but likely helped Nokia offer the company operational independence in the deal.
One other point we've been watching here at
Directions as we read media coverage of the takeover: few media outlets get the spelling and/or capitalizatoin of NAVTEQ correct. Most, including Medill (I had high hopes for a journalism school!) write Navteq. We've seen that at
The New York Times, among others, too. I see "Navtec" at
PC World,
CNN Money, and the
Wall Street Journal.
I know we get spelling and capitalization wrong, too. I can say that after some years covering this industry, I offer that it's wise to check and recheck the names of companies. Here's a quiz:
DigitalGlobe - one word or two?
AutoCAD - what's the capitalization?
MicroStation - same question
Autodesk - same question
Bentley Systems - or is it Bentley Microsystems?
IONIC Software (now part of Leica) - captalization?
ArcInfo - one word? capitalization? (hint this has changed over the years)
Placebase - one word? capitalization?
MapServer - one word? capitalization?
