Update 1/26: Here’s the video. Says my contributor: “You gotta have a lot of time on your hands to watch stuff like this.”
—original post follows—
It’s a first for the company and a first for GPS: a commercial during the second quarter. Cost? Per Ad Age, up to $2.6 million for the 30-second slot. The ad has a monster movie theme where the Maposaurus (a monster which evolves from a paper map) compats a superhero (a driver with the Garmin Nuvi).
The ad won’t be online, but a music video based on it should be online today.

Here’s how they do it in Crawford County, KS:
The overall estimated cost of the GIS service is $200,000. [GIS Director] Gagliardo said that $110,000 of that will be funded by the Wireless Technology Fund and $60,000 will come from a grant through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The remainder will be paid from county funds.
