MarketWatch profiles Pentura Solutions of Canada, which runs a website, FindByClick.com, with the locations of Tom Horton’s and Starbucks overlain on a Google Map. Apparently they get paid to add layers onto the map; they recently approached a bank about funding the addition of its ATMs.
I figured by this point Tim Horton’s (et. al.) would have it’s own mapping tools on its site and that folks could use Google Maps (once Local!) to find that which they sought. I guess there is money to be made in these very basic mashups! Still, the folks at Pentura have their own vision of how to make money with mashups detailed in the Findbyclick blog - basically, take advantage of community to build good datasets.
